The heart of The Breslin (although covered in ice) was born out of a love for art, design, family, and ritual. After moving to St. Louis in 2020, Willie, Nic, Cinder, and Whispers (aka the brand) deepened their commitment to intentional living, Victorian enchantment, and bespoke tables.

After nearly a decade of extensive travel for both work and pleasure (never enough pleasure), this chapter of their lives led to the realization that they’re happiest as homebodies. Their days are best spent decorating, cooking, making cocktails, tending to houseplants, embracing melancholia, collecting vintage Noritake china, spray-painting baroque cherub décor, and—most importantly—creating ritual with all of these elements and more.

This pursuit of domestic glamour has led them to comb through the aesthetic jungles of countless antique stores, estate auctions, and a myriad of boutiques. It’s all about how you spend “the hours,” and after investing considerable time searching for the “perfect” thing (which, by the way, doesn’t exist), they decided to start making a few of their own.

Willie’s expertise lies in being a licensed cosmetologist, esthetician, and dog dad. Nic’s expertise is in design, fashion, and immersive experiences. They love entertaining, hosting, and creating content for The Breslin, all while enjoying a diverse, evolving set of hobbies.

Together, their awesome powers combine to create candles, potions, and notions in their home studio. The alchemic process feels like a mix of mad science, mystery, and magic. Their first offering is a shimmering collection of hand-poured, small-batch candles featuring evocative fragrances, and demonic illustrations by Louis le Breton. The future is kind of dark these days—so contained fire (literally candles) seemed like the perfect fit for an illuminating launch.

Since settling in their queer Midwestern fantasy, they’ve built their dream home, hung art on walls, collected a lot of houseplants, and reveled in a human-child-free existence. It’s fabulous!
